New Mexico / Texas: The 5th Day

From Colorado to New Mexico, after the three steepest ascents of the of race, Sakurai now enters the new addition to this year's RAAM97. He had a shower every evening, and lost some energy from heat loss. The thin air at this high elevation also takes a toll, when the body needs it most. This combination makes him vulnerable to fatigue, and his speed suffers.

Last year's problem of "neck cramps" has come again. Sakurai is prepared with special supplementary items (see photo at right) to stop this problem.

Even with all these pressures he is keeping 4th place as male solo and pedaling his bike steadily onward toward the Finish.
